Kitchen cabinet colors and designs change with trends in everything from appliances to paint and decor. However, these kitchen cabinet ideas are adaptable and classic. The best kitchen trends can be a minefield of concepts and layouts. In order to determine which kitchen trends will be popular in 2022, we spoke with trend analysts.
There are many trendy looks and cutting-edge appliances to choose from thanks to the emergence of hip new kitchen brands, an abundance of creative design concepts, and clever modifications of traditional appliance designs on display in kitchen showrooms across the nation.
DECORATE WITH THE COLOR OF THE SEASON
According to Oliver Webb, director of stone specialist Cullifords, “there is a definite trend towards more impactful surface choices and we’re seeing demand soar for nature-inspired shades.”
There is an enormous variety of exotic green stones to be discovered, ranging from Indian marbles to Brazilian granites and even onyx. Cullifords is responsible for the stunning bottle green, khaki, and fresh lime colors are seen here.
When it comes to bar stools, bespoke maker Jack Trench sees a trend toward more intimate kitchen perching.
‘This could be a single or two-stool perching point, or just a smaller breakfast bar,’ says director Jack Trench (opens in new tab). ‘The trend stems from people who have kitchen-diners and realize they don’t always need extensive breakfast bars in addition to a table.’ They do, however, want seating near the kitchen’s center. This is where the kitchen perch shines; casual seating for a quick coffee or email check.’
LOOK WITH ANTIQUE WOOD
Part of the trend towards less ‘kitchen-y’ cooking spaces, classical wood kitchen cabinet ideas are making a move into the kitchen. ‘Traditional timbers are being embraced in new and unexpected ways,’ says Katie Glaister of K&H Design(opens in new tab).
‘For example, framing a beautifully book-matched kitchen island in burr walnut with aged brass accents recreates the look of an antique bureau but, elevated on legs, it feels less cumbersome and more modern.’
Blue Cabinets as a New Neutral
Blue is a perennially popular paint color, and kitchen cabinets are no exception. Subtle shades of blue, which can be found all over nature, are quickly becoming the new neutral. Combine dusty blue cabinets with natural wood accents and industrial materials for a no-fail look.
Blue kitchen cabinetry should complement the other surfaces and accent colors in your space, as well as reflect the kitchen’s overall style. Here are a few kitchens that beautifully showcase blue cabinets in varying shades alongside a thoughtful selection of materials. Try these timeless ideas for a kitchen you’ll love for years to come.
Mix-and-Match kitchen cabinet
Try a two-tone look with different colors for upper and base cabinets for a modern twist on traditional cabinetry. This kitchen elevates the look by combining Shaker-style base cabinets with raised-trim upper cabinets. The warm gray color is carried through to the kitchen’s patterned tile floor.
Future kitchen trends are all about dispelling any notions of a show home, and incorporating some antique or vintage furniture into a kitchen immediately creates a warm, lived-in home environment. A scrubbed kitchen table or dresser is the obvious choice for a traditional look in farmhouse kitchen furniture. Antique pieces will add character to a new space because they are timeless, durable, and often inexpensive to find at vintage fairs.
Ben Pentreath’s design was a modern take on a Welsh farmhouse kitchen. Simple joinery, such as a large larder cupboard and open shelves, works in tandem with a butler’s sink, Delft tiles, period-style lighting, and antique furniture to create a timeless feel that complements the house’s architectural style.
