According to Oliver Webb, director of stone specialist Cullifords, “there is a definite trend towards more impactful surface choices and we’re seeing demand soar for nature-inspired shades.”

When it comes to bar stools, bespoke maker Jack Trench sees a trend toward more intimate kitchen perching.

‘This could be a single or two-stool perching point, or just a smaller breakfast bar,’ says director Jack Trench (opens in new tab). ‘The trend stems from people who have kitchen-diners and realize they don’t always need extensive breakfast bars in addition to a table.’ They do, however, want to seat near the kitchen’s center. This is where the kitchen perch shines; casual seating for a quick coffee or email check.’

 LOOK WITH ANTIQUE WOOD

As part of the kitchen design trend toward less ‘kitchen-y’ cooking spaces, classical wood kitchen cabinet ideas are making a move into the kitchen. ‘Traditional timbers are being embraced in new and unexpected ways,’ says Katie Glaister of K&H Design(opens in new tab).

‘For example, framing a beautifully book-matched kitchen island in burr walnut with aged brass accents recreates the look of an antique bureau but, elevated on legs, it feels less cumbersome and more modern.’

Natural woodgrain is really popular. The wood grain lends a soft and warm vibe to the space, making the modest kitchen feel welcoming. Clearly, the kitchen is a place where joy and love can be found. Furthermore, the extension table is a lovely spot to share a meal with someone you care about.

Clean Yet Vibrant

While an all-white kitchen is a popular modern design choice, it can become monotonous and stale. A pop of color may break up the monotony of white and breathe new life into your kitchen. Bright accents and lively decors, such as serving ware, vases, flowers, and chairs, will add some much-needed zing.

You don’t have to limit yourself to just one burst of color; try pairing two accent colors that complement each other, such as blue and orange, yellow and green, or pastel pink and mint green.

Future kitchen design trends are all about dispelling any notions of a show home, and incorporating some antique or vintage furniture into a kitchen immediately creates a warm, lived-in home environment.

A scrubbed kitchen table or dresser is the obvious choice for a traditional look in farmhouse kitchen furniture. Antique pieces will add character to a new space because they are timeless, durable, and often inexpensive to find at vintage fairs.

Ben Pentreath’s design was a modern take on a Welsh farmhouse kitchen. Simple joinery, such as a large larder cupboard and open shelves, works in tandem with a butler’s sink, Delft tiles, period-style lighting, and antique furniture to create a timeless feel that complements the house’s architectural style.

Luxury: Sleek and Chic

A sleek and sophisticated design can make your kitchen appear larger and more opulent. This look can be achieved by combining textured pendant lights, for example, with timber benchtops and exposed beams. White-washed or grey brick walls, as well as white and chrome cabinetry, add texture and color contrast.

If you want to give your kitchen design a subtle edge, try replacing your hardwood paneled floor and tiles with polished concrete—the right blend of roughness and refinement. You may take it a step further by replacing regular light fittings with sculptural lighting alternatives.
